First Virtual Jazz Festival
The 12th Annual St. Elizabeth Jazz Festival was a big success. Because of the pandemic and for the safety of our parish and community, we decided to host the festival as a virtual festival that everyone could watch from the comfort of their own home. Our volunteer committee quickly learned how to host an event on Zoom with music and live interviews. In between the music, Connie, our MC, interviewed Sister Tiberh, Liz, Father Jim, and Cathy about the spiritual and justice outreach the parish does for our parishioners and Highland Park community. Throughout the two hour event more than a hundred people logged on. People gave generously — raising as much money as last year’s event which was on the grounds of the church. The Jazz Festival raises 20% of the church’s budget. We are grateful to the bands, volunteers, parishioners and donors who supported the church.

The first Saturday of August, jazz and food enthusiasts and aficionados from around Richmond, VA unite at the St. Elizabeth Jazz & Food Festival to celebrate the music, food, and culture of America’s music! The 11th Annual St. Elizabeth Catholic Church Jazz & Food Festival blends traditional and contemporary jazz with great food in a Christian, family oriented atmosphere. This highly anticipated summertime tradition offers a fun filled day focusing on family, food and entertainment.
Since its inception, the purpose for the St. Elizabeth Jazz & Food Festival has always been to serve as the sole annual fund raiser for this Parish and its various ministries, and most importantly to promote evangelization among St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the members of its parish and Highland Park Community.

This highly anticipated summertime tradition continues to attract many Richmonder’s to the Highland Park Community. Visitors can groove to the sounds of professional jazz musicians, browse the offerings of local vendors, and enjoy a variety of food and beverages from our beer and wine garden and local Food Trucks.
Since its inception in 2008, the purpose for the St. Elizabeth Jazz & Food Festival has always been to serve as the sole annual fund raiser for this St. Elizabeth Parish and its various ministries, and most importantly to promote evangelization among St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the members of its parish and Highland Park Community.
Every year, this highly anticipated summertime tradition continues to attract hundreds of jazz and food enthusiasts and aficionados from all over Richmond and the surrounding area to come together to celebrate family, food and jazz music. We continue to improve upon the lessons learned after every festival; with your help, we can make this year’s event the biggest yet.

St. Elizabeth Catholic Church is hosting its annual Jazz & Food Festival on Saturday, Aug. 3, in the park beside the Highland Park church, 2712 2nd Ave.
Gates open at noon, with music by local jazz artists starting at 12:30 p.m.
Featured artists include Glennroy Bailey & Company, Sharon Rae North, Doc Branch & The Keynotes, the Paige Melton Trio and Michael Hawkins.
This is the 11th year for the event, which is a fundraiser for the parish and its various ministries. While the event is free, a $5 donation is requested to attend.
Food trucks, a wine and beer garden and artisan vendors will be on site. No coolers or outside food are allowed.
Organizers ask that attendees bring lawn chairs and blankets.
A kid zone also will be available with activities for youngsters.
Raffle tickets for a $1,000 prize also will be available.

RICHMOND, Va.– The Annual St. Elizabeth Jazz and Food Festival, Saturday, August 3, at St, Elizabeth Catholic Church, gates open at noon, music starts at 12:30.
The festival in its 11th year is a small festival with talented local performers who have made a name for themselves in and around Virginia. Supporters are invited to bring their lawn chairs for an intimate setting on the grounds of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Highland Park for a day of live jazz, kids activities, local vendors, drinks, and food trucks. The festival is once again hosted by CBS 6 Events & Entertainment Reporter Antoinette Essa.
The annual event features live music from Legacy Band, Glenroy Bailey & Company featuring Debo Dabney, Sharon Rae North, Doc Branch & The Keynotes, Paige Melton & Trio and Michael Hawkins for the day. The festival benefits the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2712 2nd Ave Richmond, a community of about 100 families with a rich and proud history with the first African-American woman, Sister Cora Marie Billings, serving as the Pastoral Coordinator. The festival serves as the sole annual fundraiser for this Parish and its various ministries, and most importantly to promote evangelization among St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the members of its parish and in the Highland Park Community where the church sits.
