I’m finally back to flying High B wings and though I’d give you my first impressions of the Ozone Swift 5. I’m flying the ML size and it feels really nice.
If you’re coming from an A or low B, most noticeable will be the glide performance and slightly different groundhandlability. Also the brake pressure is quite different with shorter brake travel too, so if you’re heavy handed be careful.
All is all it’s a lovely wing, with the same design as the Rush 5 but with lightweight materials, which is really nice.

Ozone Swift 5

Ozone Swift 5

Based on the Rush 5 but 30% lighter, the ozone Swift 5 is a top of class Lightweight Sport-Performance-Intermediate wing that has been developed with the same technology used in our performance wings including the Enzo 3 and Zeno in addition to several new innovative features.

Over fifteen years of lightweight R&D have allowed us to deliver a wing that is not only top of class in terms of performance, but one of the lightest wings in its class. Thanks to a lighter sail, the Swift 5’s agility and handling is improved over the Rush 5, with a more precise feel. Another key difference is the ease of inflation and take-off behavior in general.

An extensive period of performance glide testing allowed us to evaluate the Rush and Swift 5 against class-leading wings from other manufacturers. The results have proven significant gains, especially in accelerated glide performance.

TRUE PERFORMANCE

Like our performance and competition wings, the Swift 5 excels in active air and challenging conditions. Hundreds of hours test flying in real air and turbulent conditions have gone into the development, ensuring that it satisfies our own demanding requirements along with the True Performance design goals – real, usable performance in turbulent air throughout the speed range.

DESIGN

The R&D team focused on the structural integrity of the wing to ensure an even more solid, compact, and confidence-inspiring feel compared to the Swift 4. Added structural solidity makes the wing more comfortable and improves performance in turbulent conditions. Compared to previous generation wings, the Swift 5 profile retains its shape better in active air, allowing the wing to cut through turbulence with greater efficiency.

TECH

The Swift 5 retains a moderate Aspect Ratio for ease of use and higher levels of passive safety. Performance gains have come as a result of optimisations in the line layout and next-gen 3D shaping which splits the leading edge into three distinct sections for a clean, wrinkle-free surface. Enhanced panel shaping and TE mini-ribs have also reduced parasitic drag. A new optimised Shark Nose profile aids in all categories including stability, comfort, performance, and the brake range – making it extremely resistant to accidental spin or stall.

IN THE AIR

A solid, high-performance wing is not the whole story; fun is the reason we fly. The R&D team concentrated on the handling and spent a lot of time optimising feedback and turn coordination of the original platform (Rush 5), and these advances have been further enhanced by the conversion to lightweight materials. With a direct feel and linear progression in the first part of the range, the result is an efficient climb, flat turns with minimal brake input, and increased efficiency in light lift. The responsiveness in the second part of the brake range allows easier control in strong cores.

THE PILOT

Although certified EN B, the Swift 5 is not suitable for beginner pilots. It is meant for experienced intermediate recreational pilots and XC enthusiasts who fly at least 50 hours per year.

SWIFT 5 RISERS

The Swift 5 is available with only one type of risers, made from 12mm black Cousin webbing. These are delivered standard with specially designed ‘Link Lite’ connectors to hold the riser lines. These are tested to over 500kg and save approximately 200gr in weight over conventional maillons.

Light Tech

The Swift 5’s complex hybrid lightweight construction blends design techniques from the Geo series with features from the LM5, which dominated the 2013 RedBull X-Alps, and the Alpina 2, which has broken several vol-biv performance records during its tenure. The result is an impressive level of durability and lightness, in a glider that fits comfortably in the top of the Sport-Intermediate class. The Swift 5’s weight has been reduced and optimized not only by changing the main surface cloths of the Rush 4, but by carefully tuning hundreds of design features throughout the wing. Its leading edge is constructed from N20D, which has proven to have the best longevity to weight ratio available in this class of fabrics. The trailing edge section, making up the majority of the top surface, and the bottom surface, are both constructed from Porcher Skytex 27g cloth, used for many years in our Ultralite series of wings and also our highest performance gliders such as the LM5.

Outstanding handling and performance

Compared to the Rush 4, pilots will notice a crisper and more agile feel in the air. Thanks to the light construction, the Swift 5 has more agile handling, increased feedback and higher precision. The low weight gives it a sporty, dynamic character and is in general a more sensitive wing. Due to these characteristics, it could be said that the Swift 5 has slightly elevated performance compared to the Rush 4, globally speaking.

The Ozone Shark Nose has proven to be one of the most important innovations in the sport of paragliding, as it provides vastly better behavior in performance and stability at both high and low angles of attack. In accelerated flight, the SharkNose profile is more stable, with better inflow to the cell openings and less drag at the leading edge. At slower speeds, and during intense brake inputs (for instance while coring tight thermals) the SharkNose profile is highly spin resistant, providing a longer and more progressive brake travel which the pilot can easily use to their advantage. For more info on the Sharknose design and how it works, please see here: Shark Nose Technology

True performance in flight

The Swift 5 features all of the best performance enhancing features that have made the Delta 2 and the Rush 4 so popular including the new SharkNose, an advanced arc, and very low line drag. Our testing has shown that, like the Rush 4, the Swift 4 is a wing that will inspire confidence in active air. A moderate aspect ratio combined with the compact and predictable handling made possible by the Shark Nose, the Swift 5 offers an impressive blend of ease of use, lightness, and performance. Thanks in part to its light construction, Swift 5’s launch characteristics are even better than the Rush 4, with an easy-up inflation and a light and balanced feel when ground-handling.

The original Swift not only set a new standard for a class of wings, it also created a new class of paraglider. Lightweight, agile, with top of class performance and a lively but balanced feel in the air, the latest edition of the Swift series has benefitted from the performance breakthroughs that have made our sport-performance class wings, such as the Delta series, so popular. With a Delta 2 type arc, mini ribs and plastic nose reinforcements, 57 cells for a super clean leading edge, and a 25% reduction in total line drag compared to its predecessor, the Swift 5 is the most efficient wing we have ever produced in the category.

The Swift 5 is a lightweight development of the Rush 4, weighing in at an incredible 1300g less than the Rush 4 (in the MS size). Constructed with a hybrid mix of light and ultra-light materials, the Swift 4 offers Shark Nose solidity and high levels of performance in a lightweight, compact package. The original Swift not only set a new standard for a class of wings, it also created a new class of paraglider. ABOUT CUSTOM COLOURS

Ozone encourages you to customize your own personal colour combination for your wing. Customization generally incurs a small fee. Once you’ve decided you can share your design with your friends, or if you are ready to order, send it to your local Ozone dealer to check if there is a charge and place the final order.

Please note that because the glider will be built specifically for you in the Ozone factory, payment must be received before production can begin.

FABRIC COLOUR AND UV RESISTANCE

Please be aware that the colour you see on your screen may not accurately represent the actual fabric colour. Given the wide varience in monitor calibration and the fabric appearance in different light and colour combinations, it is impossible to perfectly represent fabric colour on screen. If you have any doubts about the colours, look at photos of various wings on OZONE’s website to see them in different light and colour combinations or contact us at Flybubble to see the fabric in person.

All of the fabric that OZONE use undergoes extensive testing in prototype colour phase to ensure colourfastness, mechanical stability, porosity, and general longevity before OZONE put it into production. Once OZONE’s fabric is in production, every meter of it is rigorously inspected upon arrival in OZONE’s factory, and fabric which does not pass our stringent quality control standards is returned to the manufacturer. OZONE are frequently asked, “Which colours last the longest, or have the best UV resistance?” All of the colours that OZONE stock score between 4 and 5 on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest possible rating for longevity.

PACKAGE CONTENTS
