Oyeku, the Mother of the Spirit of Death – is an elision of the phrase O yeye Iku meaning, Spirit of the Mother of Death. In simple terms Oyeku is darkness, the complete contraction of matter into what physics calls a black hole. In human terms this can mean physical death.

Does Ifa believe in god?
Ifa has many gods called Orishas. Scott has two gods that he prays to: Oshun and Eleggua. In the religion, your god chooses you. “When you first become Ifa, you have to do a reading, and that’s when your god chooses you based on your mindset,” Scott said.

Encyclopedia of African Religion
The Odu Ifa is the sacred text of the spiritual and ethical tradition of Ifa that has its origins in ancient Yorubaland, which is located in modern Nigeria. It holds a unique position among African religions as the only one that survived the enslavement holocaust and colonialism and developed on an international level. In fact, Ifa is found in modified forms and under various names in numerous countries. For example, there is Lekumi in Cuba, [Page 475]Puerto Rico, and the United States; Voudun in Haiti; Shango in Cuba; and Candomblé in Brazil. Ifa also retains its name and orthodox form in Nigeria and has begun to grow in the United States in orthodox and modified forms. Thus, the Odu Ifa remains the spiritual and ethical …

Hear what the corpus said: Ogun ja bi iji wolu orisa oko lo rin ihoho woja it cast divined for Yewande the one that will have a pregnancy of thief in her stomach, she was advised to offer sacrifice so that she would never beget thief and stubborn child, (two kola nuts, check remaining inside my group;ifa leaves) but she refused to offered the sacrifice, when she delivered the baby he was a boy, he started growing like esu odara child, the child became a critical robber and he started thieving and behaving rascally, that was how he destroyed the reputation of his mother, Yewande became useless and shameless person in the society, and she started blaming her self for not offering the sacrifice that she was advised to offered.
People started singing for her that: Yewande you are not a good person,
Yewande you did not act like a good somebody
You are the one that had pregnancy and use it to beget thief Yewande you did not act like a good somebody.
My people, I pray that we shall never give birth to thief and stubbornness child, our child will never join robbers, we shall never beget a child that will tarnish our image and become a shameless person in the society ase.

IworiMeji is a very subtle Odu! It focuses on the Diviners ability to identify REAL possibilities…and therein, lies the rub. For understanding the genuine opportunities requires a totally different mind-set for both Diviner and Client.
The problem takes into account my original statement on “subtlety”! But keep in mind the initial purveyors of Ifa’s wisdom took into account that Diviners would initially understand only what worked then and that it would grow and increase with life experiences. As the years rolled by and as our knowledge increased with our understanding of how the world works, we would expand our ability to understand and use the information.
The problem was that it never occurred to the original owners that we would get stuck in the morass of the “frozen truth”, of believing what had once worked… would continue to do so, even as the benefits and results became smaller and smaller. Heck, it was working for Catholicism wasn’t it?
We have identified IworiMeji into one short definition…Measure twice…cut once. The old standby for the Tailor or Seamstress. Basically it means BE SURE! But “Sure of what”?
So, let’s take IworiMeji more seriously. When it states, in old texts, “that the child of IworiMeji will be a dreamer…and that a man or woman that is born under this sign will see things that do not exist in ways not normally seen…but that he will learn to interpret these into information that will be valuable”. In other words… look not simply for truth as you know it…but look for it in ways you have not yet imagined!
Don’t be afraid of failure…be afraid of being stuck! Drop the fear altogether to realize that using the same old conclusions will actually be limiting your life… That just because something is “right” once IS really missing the point…that there are new “RIGHTS” waiting for the questioning mind to find them. It is then that Iwori remains relevant…
Love and blessings

Iwori-Meji is the Orisa Odu that deals with finding things wherever it is in Orun and Aye. This Odu is seen as the eyes of all other Odus. Odu Iwori-Meji is also the Odu that stopped humans from walking down from Orun to Aye.
This Odu explained how human beings are formed from one another. It makes us understand that when Obatala molds a human or Orun and Olodumare gives the breath of life, the human then proceeds on the journey to earth and to the appointed parents who will already be waiting at the crossroad of Orun and Aye to receive their baby. This created a lot of hatred and animosity between inhabitants of Aye because there was no true love and connection between people and real family connection was non-existent. Murder and chaos was the order of the day. This made Olodumare to instruct Iwori-Meji to create Ase (female eggs) and Ato (male sperm) into the body of humans. Before lwori-Meji came there was no sexual act between men and women and the knowledge did not exist of how to copulate and the female beings did not know anything about menstruation.
Iwori-Meji explained to the inhabitants of Aye how Ase will come every month for a woman and how a man must copulate with a woman. This was how human beings started having children from their own flesh and blood, and stopped walking down from Orun. This created peace, harmony, and true love and a special bond between the inhabitants because they now felt compassion for their own flesh and blood. The Odu Iwori-Meji is also the eyes of all other Odus because it is the Odu that sees whatever is hidden on earth and in Orun.
Awo Ifa World Perspective: Iwori Meji As Documented by Baba Ayo Salami (Ibae)
Oriki is the praise poetry and invocations of the Yoruba people. It is expressed through chanting or singing and is used by Ifa/Orisha initiates as words of power in ritual and ceremony.
Awo Fa’lokun Fatunmbi has compiled over 140 Oriki in this comprehensive volume.. It promises to be an invaluable resource for Ifa Orisha practitioners in ritual, meditation, and general learning about the sacred tradition of Ifa. It is complete with Oriki in English as well as Yoruba with grammatical emphasis marks to ensure proper pronunciation of the Yoruba language.

ODU IWORI MEJI – AYE AKAMARA
THE THIRD ODU IN THE HIERARCHY OF ODU THE WORD OF OLODUMARE IS IWORI. WHEN IT APPEARS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE OPELE OR ON THE IFA TRAY THEN NUMBER TWO IS ADDED TO IT AND IT IS CALLED “TWO IWORI OR EJI IWORI” OR THE NUMBER CAN BE ADDED AFTER AND IT WILL BE CALLED IWORI TWO OR IWORI MEJI. THE NAME OF THE ODU IS IWORI AND THE APPEARANCE OF THE ODU AT THE TWO SIDES DUALIZE ITS POTENCY AND MAKE IT MORE POWERFUL, HENCE THE STATE BY WHICH MENTAL STATE OR EMOTIONAL STATE OR PHYSICAL OR SPIRITUAL STATE IS MORE POTENT, MORE DYNAMIC AND MORE VERSATILE IS CALLED IWORI MEJI. BOTH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL POWER IS WORKING IN ALIGNMENT WITH OLODUMARE, THUS THERE IS SOUND COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE TERRESTRIAL AND THE CELESTIAL REALM WITHOUT BLOCKAGE. IWORI MEJI SPEAKS OF SOUND EMOTIONAL AND DIVINE POWER THAT IS BEYOND HUMAN COMPREHENSION.
THE WORD ” IWORI” IS FROM TWO WORDS IWO AND ORI. IWO MEANS TO LOOK AND ORI MEANS HEAD, HENCE IWORI MEANS LOOKING INTO ONE’S HEAD, OR SEEKING MENTAL POWER TO EFFECT POSITIVE CHANGES INTO ONE’S LIFE. IWORI MEJI BECOMES THE SPIRITUAL, MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL GIFT FROM OLODUMARE TO ATTRACT POSITIVE VIBRATION IN ONE’S LIFE AND THE LIVES OF THE LOVED ONES.
OGBE MEJI OR EJIOGBE IS A MALE VIBATION AND OYEKU MEJI OR EJI OYE IS THE FEMALE VIBRATION AND THE MARRIAGE BETWEEN THE TWO GAVE BIRTH TO IWORI MEJI OR EJI IWORI.
EJI IWORI OR IWORI HAPPEN TO BE THE FIRST FRUIT OR FIRST CHILD OF THE TWO POWERFUL VIBRATIONS IN CREATION. INDEED, EJIOGBE OR OGBE MEJI REPRESENTS LIGHT, LOVE AND LIFE, AND EJI OYEKU OR OYEKU MEJI REPRESENTS DEATH, MOTHER EARTH AND DARKNESS, WHILE IWORI MEJI REPRESENTS THE EQUILIBRIUM BETWEEN THE TWO. IWORI SHOWS THAT WE MUST RECEIVE BOTH GOOD AND BAD BECAUSE PHYSICAL LIFE IS RADIATED AND REVOLVES AROUND THESE TWO ALTERNATIVES WHICH MEANS THAT BOTH WHAT WE CALL GOOD AND THE EVIL ARE FROM OLODUMARE. JUST AS EJIOGBE REPRESENTS DAY AND OYEKU MEJI REPRESENTS NIGHT, THE GAP BETWEEN THE TWO GAVE BIRTH TO IWORI MEJI. THAT IS THE REASON IWORI MEJI EMPHASIZES ON THE SOUND MENTAL CONTROL AND SPIRITUAL WISDOM TO COPE WITH THE HAZARDS AND BLESSINGS OF THE JUNGLE OF PHYSICAL EXISTENCE CALLED AYE AKAMARA, THAT IS, THE PHYSICAL WORLD WITH UNENDING CHALLENGES. JUST AS YOU SOLVE ONE, ANOTHER WILL SURFACE, NO AVENUE FOR THE WEAK AND THE FRAGILE. INDEED, PROPIATION AND OFFERING OF SACRIFICE OR PRAYER TO ORI WILL INITIATE BLESSING AND VICTORY. IT IS THE SUM TOTAL OF “ORI LA BA MI A BO, KI A FI ORISA SILE”, WHICH MEANS THAT WE OUGHT TO TAKE GOOD CARE OF OUR DESTINY OR LIFE OR HEAD BEFORE OFFERING SACRIFICE TO DIVINITIES. THAT IS YOUR SOUND MENTAL STATE IS GREATER THAT THE FORCES OF ORISA IF YOU CONSTANTLY APPEASE TO ORI TO COME TO YOUR AID.
ACCORDING TO AN IFA VERSE:
IFA JEBO NAA O FIN
ELA JEBO NAA O RODE ORUN GBURE GBURE

O GBO RIRU EBO O RU
O GBO ATEKESU, O RU

TRANSLATION:
IFA LET MY SACRIFICE BE ACCEPTED
ELA LET MY RITUAL GO UP TO THE HEAVEN ABOVE
LET US PROPITIATE ORI BEFORE ANY DIVINITY
THUS DIVINE IFA ORACLE FOR THE FOOL
THAT ADORES THE HEAD OF OTHERS
HE SHOULD OFFER SACRIFICE
HE HEARD OF SACRIFICE HE IMMEDIATELY DID IT
HE OFFERED RITUAL TO ESU
ROBBING HAND ON HIS HEAD
SINGING DIVINE SONG WITH HIS MOUTH
LET’S WORSHIP ORI BEFORE ANY DEITY
IFA I HAVE PLUCKED THE LEAVE OF OLUBORI
LET ME FULFILL MY DESTINY IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING
