Jonesville, Mi What is the best poly kit to put on a 643 low tin corn head? I have 350 acres left to go and the wind we had the last two days was very hard on the corn and a lot of it is broke and played over.

west central nebraska We have polytin from Iowa. It works good in downed corn. Just like any poly it will crumple if you hit something solid

WC Franklin Co., In. WC Franklin Co., In. Our 643 has the Deere poly on it and it works good. Not a cure all for down corn, but vastly better than the factory tin.

Morris, IL I like our JD poly on 643, found them used from another agtalker. For few snapped here and their I think poly will help but if you can go now and get it out really don’t think really worth it. If you have flat patches get a reel, we have both and ran both most of this past year. Poly really helps in lot of small ways, but when your down and out with patches flat reel can save lot of corn.
This year our corn went flat from July 1 85 mph wind storm, that made harvest fun this year. Stood back up kind of, average of about 30″ off where I planted. Poor quality, just wanted to beak off at ground level. Reel and poly and feelers really helped, only stopped 1/2 dozen times. Next thing I’d do for down corn is wedge kit.
What ever you do, stay safe.

Poly tin snouts are cheaply made.

NC Iowa I got polytin from vh inc in rock valley iowa. no experience with anything else but I sure liked it. I had some badly goosenecked corn and it got under it way better that the tin would. cost about $3500 for the jack knife snouts for a 643.

West Central Minnesota Agree with the GVL, we’ve had good luck with ours. Has held up very good.

Jonesville, Mi Thanks guys for the response. I found a poly tin kit from worthington ag for $2900. I’m going to look into the gvl tomorrow. After getting out 10-20 times per round for several hours, I finally took the ear savers off and that helped some other then now you can watch some ears roll off the snouts when the corn is good. With the ear savers off at least I can get under most of the corn that’s down. For the most part the stalks are broke off 12-18″ from the ground in this field anyways. Kind of sucks running irrigated corn that’s like this but it happens.

I know for a fact a kit will fit in the shortbed chevy. just need a few ratchet straps. crew cab you will have to put a couple pieces in the cab.
2 guys could have steel off and poly on in 4-5 hours. if your good with your hands.
only one regret.
not doing a couple years sooner while continuing to fix the steel snoots.

Jonesville, Mi Can you interchange John Deere ploy with gvl incase I break a snout and can’t get a gvl immediately? I know poly tin will not.

Keep your tin snouts for a back up if you run a poly snout under. The tin snouts are only worth scrap price any way.
