How big is the Ford Mondeo estate boot?

Boot space is vitally important when you’re buying an estate car, so it’s surprising to learn that the Mondeo estate’s 525-litre luggage capacity is 12 litres shy of the old model’s.

What are Ford Mondeo problems?

Many owners complain of loose or rattling interior trim, especially around the dashboard and driver’s door, while there have also been reports of seat problems, with the side bolsters of some cars collapsing after only a short time.

Why is the Ford Mondeo so good?

The Mondeo makes a strong case for itself out on the road because the ride quality on almost every version is comfortable, while all but the least powerful engines offer a good slug of low-down grunt that makes the car feel punchy and responsive.

Is the Ford Mondeo comfortable?

The Ford Mondeo is pretty comfortable to drive – even over poorly maintained roads – and there’s less road noise than you’ll hear in a few more expensive German alternatives.

Is the Mondeo estate longer than the hatchback?

Size. At 4,871mm long and 1,852mm wide, the Ford Mondeo is definitely among the largest cars in its class – although surprisingly, the estate is fractionally shorter than the hatchback (at 4,867mm).

Is a Mondeo bigger than a focus?

The Mondeo is taller and just as wide, but not quite as long.

How long does a Mondeo clutch last?

I have read in the past that a Mondeo clutch (mines a ’97 2.0 petrol estate) can be expected to last about 120k miles.

Do Ford Mondeo have transmission problems?

What is the most powerful Mondeo?

We drove the 238bhp petrol model, and it’s hugely impressive. The most powerful Mondeo engine ever – and likely to star in the new Focus ST – it launches the newcomer from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 144mph.

Which is better Mondeo or Octavia?

The Skoda achieved its lowest ratings in Driver Power in the comfort and handling stakes – and here the Mondeo wins hands down. There’s nothing wrong with the Octavia’s dynamics, it’s just that they are simply not up to the class-leading standard of its opponent, which is supremely comfortable over long distances.

Are Ford discontinuing the Mondeo?

Last year it was confirmed that the Ford Mondeo saloon would be phased out of production by March 2022, with Ford citing changing customer demand as the reason for calling time on its previously big selling family car.

Which is the best Mondeo engine?

The most popular choice was the 150hp 2.0-litre TDCi, with manual transmission. It has 350Nm of torque from 2,000rpm and examples fitted with the Econetic fuel-saving features are claimed to deliver 67.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 109g/km. It’s quicker too with a 130mph top speed and a 0-62mph time of 9.5 seconds.

Is there a new Ford Mondeo coming out?

The Mondeo badge is back – but not in Britain. Ford has revealed a new generation of its iconic family car that’s due to hit roads in 2022, but the model will not go on sale in the UK, in Europe or in the USA, and is for China only.

Estate car or hatch as an overnight camper

Only other non routine maintenance has been a replacement ‘joystick’ for the door mirror remotes and a stuck caliper causing a rear disk to need replacement.

Diesels are pretty good. Some mention the 1.6 Diesel of Doom that eats turbo chargers. But I think the real problems were with the 16 valve iteration with the 8 valve being in most Berlingos. Certainly ours, 2013, is eight valve. Now over 100,000 miles and other than regular servicing the only engine/fuel system attention has been a top up of EOLYS fluid used in the DPF at around 90,000.

Rear seats can either tumble into the foot well or come out altogether. Never slept in ours but got full size bikes in stowed fore/aft and on another occasion a settee.

Ford Mondeo Estate – Practicality & boot space 2020 review

Ford Mondeo Estate interior space & storage

Doing away with the hatchback’s sloping roofline means the estate offers more headroom, while the larger windows also brighten up the interior considerably.

Just like the hatchback, the estate can comfortably accommodate two six-foot adults in the back, and space in the front is also excellent. Wide-opening doors mean getting in is easy, while the top-of-the-range model features leather-trimmed power-adjustable front seats. These are great to sit in, but unlikely to have a huge affect on the car’s resale value.

Ford has a reputation for building very practical interiors, and the Mondeo’s glovebox is big enough for a one-litre bottle of water. You’ll also find two cup-holders in the centre console and an extra tray located ahead of the gearstick.

Boot space

Boot space is vitally important when you’re buying an estate car, so it’s surprising to learn that the Mondeo estate’s 525-litre luggage capacity is 12 litres shy of the old model’s. It’s also 125 litres less than you get in the Volkswagen Passat Estate, and 135 litres behind the Skoda Superb Estate, which now leads the class for luggage space. In fact, the smaller Ford Focus Estate is better if you need the loadspace, as it offers 608 litres. The Mondeo’s rear seats are more spacious, however.

Maximum capacity with the rear seats folded down also falls behind the Passat (1,630 versus 1,780 litres). It’s also worth noting that the hybrid models offer a boot that’s quite a bit smaller than the diesel models, due to the batteries being located under the raised boot floor.

On the plus side, the Ford’s boot offers a large opening, has only a small load lip, and is a useful shape. With the rear seats folded down (they split 60:40) the floor is also flat. The boot space has various hooks for securing loads and Ford offers a set of cargo nets and a sliding partition rail for £250. Buyers can choose between carrying a space-saver spare wheel for ultimate peace of mind or a puncture-repair kit for a few litres of extra carrying capacity.

Used Ford Mondeo Review – 2007-2014 Reliability, Common Problems

Data from CAP Derwent – a scheme which pools repair information from some of the UK’s biggest vehicle leasing firms to predict when parts will need to be replaced – shows that the Ford Mondeo gets through bulbs and wiper blades faster than the average family car.

However, while a typical rival suffers problems with its electrics after 58,000 miles and needs its air conditioning serviced or regassed after 33,000 miles, a Mondeo can generally go at least 65,000 miles before either of these things need attention.

The Mondeo is also slightly easier than its rivals on brakes. And it can typically cover more than 100,000 miles before you need to worry about the cambelt, clutch, diesel particulate filter, engine or suspension.

The Mondeo is reasonably reliable. A reliability score of 67% in our latest survey isn’t the greatest, but neither is it appalling – so if you find a car that’s been well looked after and keep it maintained properly, it should look after you in return. What’s more, it’s worth keeping in mind that when Mondeos do break down, they’re usually cheap to fix.

Used Ford Mondeo Review – 2014-2022

ST-Line models gains a sportier look over a Zetect model thanks to its 18in alloy wheels, a body kit, sports suspension and gloss black exterior trim. ST-Line Edition trim has larger 19in alloy wheels, tinted rear windows and red interior stitching with part-leather upholstery.

The Mondeo makes a strong case for itself out on the road because the ride quality on almost every version is comfortable, while all but the least powerful engines offer a good slug of low-down grunt that makes the car feel punchy and responsive. And with the exception of steering that’s a touch on the light side, the Mondeo handles as well as you’d hope, changing direction deftly and keeping body lean in check remarkably well for such a big car.

Inside, the Mondeo struggles to match up to those premium models; while the dashboard is clearly laid out, it suffers from a few rather shiny-looking plastics, and the infotainment system is sluggish and fiddly to use.

Fortunately, there’s loads of space up front and there’s plenty of space in the rear for three abreast for shorter journeys. The boot is enormous – although access in the hybrid version is restricted since it is a saloon-only model with a smaller boot opening than the hatchback of the regular model.

Ford Mondeo Review 2022 | Drive, Specs & Pricing

We take the hassle and haggle out of car buying by finding you great deals from local and national dealers

The Ford Mondeo is a medium-size hatchback, that offers improved interior quality and efficiency over the model it replaces. The Volkswagen Passat and Mazda 6 are its closest rivals, but many buyers also consider more expensive models such as the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4.

Is the Ford Mondeo a good car?

Driving the Ford Mondeo is more comfortable than thrilling – indeed, it’s more relaxing to cruise around in than some more expensive German alternatives. The tradeoff is that it’s no longer the best car to drive in class – that crown has been passed to the excellent Mazda 6.

The Ford Mondeo’s diesel and 1.5-litre petrol variants are the most recommended because they perfectly blend performance with low running costs. Choose the diesel if you frequently cover long distances. If you want more pace, the twin-turbo diesel is the model to go for – offering much of the pace of the 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol, while being a lot cheaper to run. There is also a hybrid version, but the smallest diesel has lower running costs and is better to drive.

There are three trim levels to choose from – Style, Zetec and Titanium. The basic model has all the equipment you need with climate control and a touch-screen infotainment system being highlights.

Good to drive and cheap to run – the Mondeo is a great purchase

There are no two ways about it: the Ford Mondeo is a hugely capable and versatile car. It’s refined driving experience shames many more expensive machines.

The Ford Mondeo’s interior feels significantly more upmarket than the old model’s, too. As a result, it’s very hard to argue that Ford hasn’t produced a genuine rival to the VW Passat, and maybe even – dare we say it – offerings from BMW and Audi.

In terms of practicality, the Ford Mondeo has plenty of room for four adults and a boot big enough to swallow a week’s worth of luggage.

If you’re able to live with the badge, and can accept that it isn’t quite as fun to drive as it once was, then the Ford Mondeo should be considered one of the best all-rounders on sale today.

Recommend a car for a tall person to sleep in the back of

> I’m not quite that tall, but I can sleep with some spare space in the back of my Mk1 facelift ford focus estate. The back seats go completely flat, with no bump where they join the boot floor, which is nice.

> I got it four years ago, 8 years old with 135k miles and a few dents for £1500. The petrol version is cheaper, but that mileage would seem a lot on a petrol.

What car is big enough to sleep in the back of?

I’m a piano technician who travels through NSW. The job can take me into the evenings and I end up somewhere curled up on the back seat. So I want to find a wagon or suv I can actually put the back seats down flat and sleep in on occasion as its usually too far or too late to find a motel or hotel. I went looking at vehicles to find none really give a distance from the boot to the back seat only volume.

Which wagons and SUVs are actually long enough to do this? The only one I can think of is the Holden sports wagon but I’d take a new Peugeot 3008 if I could sleep in it. By the way I’m 170cm. hope you may have some suggestions.

Living In A 2011 Ford Mondeo

How I transformed my car into a camper van.

By July, 1st 2016 I left my apartment for ever and moved into my car. Now I am living a van life – more precise: A car live. I do not only live in my car, I also work there. My car is my office, my bedroom, my kitchen. It’s my home.

I am an engineer, photographer and digital nomad, working like everyone else – just in a car.

This video is a room tour of my VOGEL ADVENTURE VAN. I met Lars Wendt with HowTube in Hamburg and showed him around. You can see how my rooftop tent works, how I organised my kitchen and see where my second bedroom is. I show you my closet, my office, my battery compartment – everything.

Every item I changed in my car is self-built – meant to be just a prototype… but still working fine.

I also talked with Lars in a little interview about my future plans. Because this is not the end of the story. The next step is to reduce my stuff even more. By the end of 2018 I will move into a Volkswagen Beetle and travel from Patagonia to Alaska. All the way through South, Central and North America.

If you want to get some inspiration how you can manage to live in a car: Enjoy this Video!
