Turbo Buell XB GoPro tank mount – buell xb turbo kit, details of this topic
For more information, check out my build website at www.streetfighterperformance.com
A short ride around the block with the GoPro mounted with their suction cup mount. This mount does a much better job than the handlebar mount but the camera still vibrates a good bit.
The boost controller is set to ~15psi in every gear.
The bike is running a bit rich at that boost level which causes the couple of stutters during hard acceleration at 2:35 and 6:10.
The slipping clutch is evident in the 4th and 5th gear pull at 6:12.
The GoPro picks up an occasional rattle noise when the intake plumbing slightly vibrates against the tank cover (what the GoPro suction cup is attached to).
At 8:58 a guy in a white SUV asks what kind of bike it is and at 10:08 and 12:48 I talk to a guy riding a Triumph. He asks if it’s a 500, haha!
At 10:40 a woman tries to cut me off…..Grrr!

How to blow up your Bike – the Buell XB9S Turbo
Boooooooost! By Hillbilly-Motors.
Where the name is actually exactly what you get. Many riders wanted to keep the short stroke but have a bit of extra power. Even with extensive engine work, you wouldn’t get much more than 1120cc. Sooo… A turbo charger – right?
Right. 115-120hp was the result of a very successful experiment. Hillbilly-Motors provided a complete turbo charger kit including of course the turbo, intercooler, intercooler management and indicator, engine management oil connections and tubing, exhaust and tank cover.
The XB9S Turbo was definitely a worthy successor of Jens’ turbocharged Buell 1200 RSS and a predecessor for the supercharged XBK.

Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 – 01:08 am: I hate to say this but if you really want 160hp then go buy a R1 or something Nippon. I could have bought one for what I paid for my XB12 I chose a different path. Something as highly modified as a turbo XB will be allot of headaches. But you are right, HOW COOL that would be!! You guys are rubbing off on me.

Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 – 03:08 am: I wonder what kinda speed you would have to be doing before you could actually pin the throttle without having to worry about going over. Maybe you could go from 120 to 125 really fast then hit red line.

Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 – 10:03 am: Guys, guys, guys,
Haven’t you ever wanted something just to be different? Like owning a Buell? First off I think HBM claims around 110-115hp when bolted onto a stock XB engine. That’s not ridiculous…especially on my Ss with the 2 extra inches. And yes, the bike tops at 130ish stock…yes, we’d lose some of the LOUD potato, potato, potato sound…but who cares. I guarantee you’ll be the only one in the parking lot with one…maybe the entire state!

Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 – 10:41 am: Naah…you don’t need any of that. You just need a road that is so twisty you can’t use the power the engine already has. Then work on terrorizing sportbike riders who think Buells are slow.

Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 – 11:21 am: I live roughly zero miles from just such a road .
That’s the one I’m talking about Glitch . Apparently they had fueling issues and are still trying to work them out. Aside from that, it’s a go .

Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 – 12:40 pm: I’d like a turbo XB, it would go well with my turbo Miata. Then I’d have two of the world’s best handling vehicles overcome by excessive power!
I actually think a turbo would be great for an XB. Huge exhaust gas pulses and relatively low RPM should make it easier to find the right size turbo for minimal lag, and the turbo itself will dampen the exhaust noise enough to run a nearly open exhaust and still get past EPA regulations.

Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 – 12:42 pm: Turbo lag? What lag that turbo is so small spool up is Instantaneous.
M1combat
Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 – 12:49 pm: Ummm, it’s not instantaneous. Maybe close and I’m sure they’re great when you’re NOT at the limit of available traction in a corner. When you are though, you need something with absolutely linear power addition with no lag what so ever. I’m not saying it would be impossible to ride by any means, but not quite as user friendly as a directly driven device.

Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 – 01:03 pm: The only turbo motorcycle I’ve ever ridden was a Kawasaki GPz 750 Turbo. That bike was downright scary when the turbo spooled up about 4500rpm. It was cool to chop the throttle and hear the wastegate dump.

I’m with Chad. With good roads, who needs mods? Besides, I already have a turbocharged vehicle–with a Cummins Diesel.
